Regular Training

Automated training and performance analysis

Lumo Drive is a proven solution to provide novice driver training, driver assessments, driver safety and fuel efficient driving training. It is used by more than 8000 students per year at multiple locations around the world. Each student is guided during the training by a virtual instructor. The instructor gives positive and negative feedback about the driving style and provides directions where to go.

Lumo Drive: a driving simulator for Research organisations

Lumo Drive is a proven solution to provide driver assesments, novice driver training, driver safety and fuel efficient driving training. It is used by more than 8000 users per year at multiple locations around the world. Each user is guided during a session by a virtual instructor. The virtual instructor can give the user positive and negative feedback about the driving style and provides directions on where to go.

During the session, the operator can track what a user is doing and control multiple simulators at the same time using the operator console(s).

Results of the experiment are stored in a centralized SQL database and reports can be generated afterwards. All actions performed by the user are recorded and are ready to be viewed after the session using the Lumo After Action Review (AAR) tool.

Support

re-lion has a dedicated helpdesk available during business hours to help you get the most out of your driver simulator. Support is available by e-mail, phone and remote access (if a working internet connection is available). Remote access can be a valuable tool when you are preparing for experiments and run into unforeseen problems.

Available configurations

The configurations below are standard configurations. It is also possible to integrate Lumo Drive on third party / existing hardware. Please contact us for the options.

Desktop Package

This configuration fits neatly onto your desktop with 3 displays so the student has enough field of view to the left and right. Included is a rugged steering wheel, gear shift, pedals and speakers or headphones. It is a cost-effective way to operate a low-fidelity driving simulator.

Mockup package

The car mockup uses realistic instruments and dashboard to give the student the feeling that he or she is actually driving a car. The setup includes full 180 degree field-of-view projection screens so the student has a clear view to the left, front and right of the car. It offers the driver the most realistic experience possible.

Integration in a Research Environment

A Driving Simulator in a research environment is not standalone equipment. For optimal usage, it can be integrated with the tools and equipment you already use. Examples are measurement devices (eye trackers, fysiological devices, etc) and data measurement tools like Noldus's Observer

Data logging with timestamps is included and can be exported in different data formats. To facilitate synchronization of logged data, an external starting time can be supplied.

Scenarios

Lumo Drive offers the possibility to script deterministic scenarios (all traffic behavior will be the same every run), partly deterministic or completely non-deterministic (autonomous traffic).

Replay of recorded sessions

Lumo After Action Review (AAR) is a playback and annotation tool for training sessions. Its purpose is to give a student and/or instructor a better overview of what happened during training by allowing the user camera control and the ability to annotate specific events. Data can be exported from the AAR tool into a video or CSV format for close inspection.

Interoperability

Networking

Lumo Drive is interoperable and supports communications via HLA to other simulators depending on the FOM and runtime infrastructure (RTI) used.

3D Models and virtual environments

Lumo Builder is the application used to create virtual environments for Lumo Drive. It supports several industry standard file formats to existing models.

Key features

Key features of Lumo Drive for Research organizations are:

  • Integration with existing tools and equipment.
  • Open Architecture.
  • Use of standardized performance indicators (FESTA).
  • Ease of use, intuitive operator interface.
  • Day and night driving.
  • Fog, black ice, snow and rain.
  • Pedestrians, bicyclists.
  • Stable framerate.

Tailoring Lumo Drive to your requirements

The development package offers the customer the capability to create custom 3D environments using Lumo Builder and export these environments for use in Lumo Drive. Next to that, the development package also includes API information for Lumo Drive to allow the customer to create custom scenarios. Scenarios are defined in the Lua language. A powerful, fast, lightweight, embeddable scripting language that is open-source.

Using the development package, it is also possible to insert script code recording measurements required for research.

Customization

It is possible for us to tailor Lumo Drive to your needs. Do contact us in case you have special requirements.

Lumo Drive in C,mm,n Car driving simulator

Lumo Drive in C,mm,n Car driving simulator   The University of Twente and re-lion are working on a driving simulator for the ‘Car of the Future’ using Lumo Drive and Lumo Builder in which future mobility is explored.

By presenting the Lumo Drive driving simulator visitors can experience what future mobility might look like. In the simulation innovative mobility concepts are presented that show the car will evolve to be more of a durable article over a symbol of status. Moreover, the car will be presented as an increasingly sustainable means of transportation due to new technologies offering minimization of external effects of driving, improving the carpooling possibilities and easing the driving task of the driver. In this way re-lion and the University of Twente offer the visitor of the AutoRAI a glimpse into the future of driving.
