Newsletter 2: Builder IITSEC 2011

Pre-launch information for a select view

I would like to thank you for showing an interest in the upcoming launch of re-lion Builder. We have had a great end of 2011 and a successful I/ITSEC exhibition in Orlando early December, where we demonstrated the first preview release of re-lion Builder. Many thanks go to our hardworking development team; they managed to integrate terrain footprint technology just in time for the exhibition and we received good feedback on that. More about this technology can be found below.

The release date of Builder is estimated at April this year. We will supply you with a few updates through this mailing list between now and the release.

At the end of the newsletter are some interesting downloads: the 4 most important benefits to use re-lion Builder, a tour along those benefits and finally, the video as was shown on I/ITSEC.

If you received this e-mail without being subscribed to our launch mailing list, be sure to visit the re-lion Builder product page and subscribe. In case you received this e-mail and want to unsubscribe, check the end of the mail on how to do this.

Thank you,

Chris Haarmeijer
CEO, re-lion BV

Where does re-lion Builder fit

re-lion Builder was originally envisioned as a standalone terrain database generator tool. During tests of re-lion Builder's commercial strategy with potential customers and suppliers of existing terrain database generators, it became clear that re-lion Builder also offers you an advantage when combined with existing terrain database generators like TerraVista and TerraTools. This allows you to upgrade terrain detail in an easy way.

For your convenience, I have included the diagram below. It provides an overview of the birth and updates of terrain database:

What is the Footprint technology

Do you also find it difficult to exactly line up the terrain to your 3D models or vice versa? Often, you will find seams and holes between your objects and the terrain surface. This can seriously distract people using your terrain database in their tasks.

Without footprintFigure: A building on hilly terrain without footprinting. Notice the holes.

To remedy this problem we have added footprint technology to re-lion Builder: terrain height is automatically matched up with your models placed on top of it. This even applies to roads! Footprinting is not a permanent modification in the terrain as that would destroy your original height data. After removal or movement of the 3D model or road your original height data is restored. Footprinting is therefore especially useful for mountainous areas and hilly terrain.
